The company also helps the farmers by providing them technological support for pest management, fertility, and quality management by organic methods. Where did the idea to start something like this come from? Please also talk us through your background and your journey as an entrepreneur; I come from a farmer background where I see my Grandfather, Father, and other people working very hard in their farmland for their livelihood using fertilizers and pesticides to yield more grains which they don’t know about their future consequences. During my traveling to various states and visits to different Organic Farms, I came to know the alternative of using fertilizers and pesticides which keeps our life healthy and most important conserve our Mother Earth. The whole idea of being entrepreneurship came from the rich experience I developed through my Organic journey in Top-notch companies, their operations from farm to fork. Why did you choose entrepreneurship over a job? To be an entrepreneur one day was always there in my mind. But before that, I need to know the depth of knowledge in the functioning of the whole operation and have a chance to interact with interesting people. During the course of time, I realized this job as monotonous and humdrum where I completely found myself at a loose end. So, I planned to drop this 9 to 5 job to give myself more productive time and make my vision more diverse in the field of Organic for the sustainable development of our farmers who are the real winners. What was your key driving force to become an entrepreneur? The farmer background and rich experience in the Organic Journey made my path challenging but more enjoyable and satisfying where I get an opportunity to transfer my knowledge to farmers making them aware about the Organic Farming. What’s your source of motivation? The answer to this question is more or less the same answer as I explained earlier: my inner desire to do something for my farmers and sharing with them my knowledge which I have learned during these years so that they can do justice to their mother Earth by making the land and soil sustainable. How many hours a day do you work on average? Truly speaking I do not believe in quantity but the quality I use to spend in my entrepreneurship journey which gives me immense satisfaction that YES, I am going on the right track. Hours and Hours is being spent on interacting with people and learning from them new skills such as how to fill the lacunae and improve the whole system and make it more affordable to the common people. What is the uniqueness of your startup? Serving with utmost quality to the health loving consumer. Availability of a large variety of affordable products without any intention of high profit-making. Always ready to serve with the best and authentic quality and service. How do you handle the pressure and manage stress? Being an Organic lover, I know the importance of eating healthy foods and feel the strength and vitality of the product which makes me more confident to handle pressure and stress. There are times I come across few customers who find reluctance in buying Organic foods due to its high price without knowing its deep health benefits to his or her family, which I believe is complete insurance to the whole family. Pressure does come sometimes in the availability of products throughout the year which I am keenly working to make it available to the consumer at large. How do you generate new ideas? Rich experience and meeting with new people all over India and abroad keeps me motivated and helps me in learning innovative things to make this whole journey more comfortable and satisfying. How did you come up with the name of your company? As I mentioned previously, I am from a farmer background and 70% of our population depends on agriculture which I believe is the real winner and economic booster of our country Bharat. So, I formed my company as a patriot and salute to our Mother Earth in the name of INDYO ORGANIC , which has given so much to us as its rich biodiversity in the world. What piece of advice would you give to college graduates who want to become entrepreneurs? Believe in yourself. Find your strength weakness, avoid rat race, avoid comparing yourself with others. Every individual has its own unique strength. Believe in your dreams and follow them wholeheartedly. Do not panic from failure, trying again and again one day you will surely get the right path to follow and achieve your dreams. GOOD LUCK! To know more about the company, kindly; Tell us a little about your organization and your organizations journey so far? Being Founder of Luxumhomes, I would like to apprise that our company is an interior design studio located in Delhi, India that provides a full range of high-end commercial interior design, residential interior design, lighting and decorative services. I have started this company in the year 2017. In Initial days, I had to face problems, like everyone who starts a new business does. It was hard for me because I had to take care of my house including my children, husband and my parents. Since this was my passion, I never let these obstacles come in my way to form Luxumhomes. As we say, we get what we work for, not what we wish for. I applied every effort and worked hard to achieve my lifetime goal and because of that, I am where I am supposed to be today. I had to maintain the role of a great mother, a good wife, a good daughter, and a good entrepreneur. I had to do all that together and since I am also working as a Psychologist that gives me energy to do and feel good always. Tell us a little bit about yourself and your journey as an entrepreneur, please? Well, I am a god fearing and I always remain dedicated to whatever responsibility I have been given being lover of executing multitasking. I got married just after my post-graduation and that too at an early age. In the same year I was blessed with a lovely daughter. So many changes which I must say were also quite new to me and sudden, were became part of my journey. New environment, new place, a total new life, that too full of different responsibilities. I accepted everything with open hands and positive thinking, for I believe that adversity is an opportunity to prove yourself. At that time, my priorities were taking care of my home, my parents, my kids and my husband of-course. I never wanted myself to be occupied with other things at that time, because I wanted to justify with every relation and those were the foundation years of my new life too. In a way, at that time, it was like all I wanted to love my kids as much as I could. I wanted to give them the best upbringing, I never kept a nanny for them, like most parents usually prefer nowadays. Now, my kids are big enough to handle things and manage things on their own. With the grace of almighty I am having a happy loving family. After 12 years of my marriage, I pursued my MA in clinical psychology because that was always my dream and I told myself that now is my chance to lead people to happiness. This unwavering determination was the power. I always wanted to help people from their sufferings and the pain. I would listen to their problems, concerns and doubts, and to offer them clear cut guidance and encouragement that will leave them feeling confident end reassured. By god’s grace I was able to manage that as well and I am continuing that as a part of my hobby because I love doing it and I feel proud of myself that I got an opportunity to help someone making them get out of their pain. It rejuvenates me. I do believe that if you do what you love, you'll never work a day in your life. This is because the thing that you truly love, will never actually be work for you. It will just be living your life to the fullest. I am always a creative child since my childhood. Now this is the time to fulfil those dreams. My entire family is with me always when it came to fulfilment of my dreams. Special thanks to my father and my daughters. My elder daughter always motivated me and encouraged me to fulfil my dreams. I still remember her saying this- “Mamma, there's nothing that you cannot do!”, and she gave me so much of confidence to really achieve what I dreamt of. Here, the journey as an entrepreneur started. I became a creative designer. I did my online courses and in addition to that, I learnt many things from my father, who is in Chandigarh, and also in the same line, he has been doing this for years. I did my internship under him only. Then I came back to Delhi and thought of starting my own Luxumhomes, my LUXURY Brand. Why did you choose entrepreneurship over a job? Well, I have lot of responsibilities, which I never wanted to neglect so that me and my husband were always on the same wavelength that he'll take care of my shopping and our business and I'll be taking care of the house and kids. We both were trying to balance our own responsibilities and I never wanted to neglect my family and kids especially in their foundation years. I always wanted to be a good wife & mother, wisely protecting my family and creating warm and loving home. So that is the reason why I chose entrepreneurship over a job. I wanted to show actual proof of my identity through my well-developed character, the way of my life, my family and contributions at work that we can do anything, come what may. In the end your determinations and your hard-work matters. What gets you out of bed in the morning that is what's your source of motivation? Working as a creative designer has taught me a lot. I realized that I feel the most fulfilled when I can create exciting designs that help and inspire people. whenever I get up in the morning, my first thing is that I pray to God and thank him for giving me a beautiful new day for facing and learning new things in my life. I get motivated that I got a new day to achieve my goals. I start the engine of my life with my prayers and chanting and a new determination to do my best today. My work is my passion, I don’t consider my work as a job and I love doing it. So, it’s very easy for me to wake up in the morning In our life we have two choices, first to take what life gives you or to be clear about what you want from life. If you know what you want, it will help you taking your life where you want to go. So, I get a motivation to look forward that what God has planned for me today and I take that opportunity and fulfil what I want. During this COVID-19 pandemic, what are the measures you have undertaken to continue your business without disruption? This is the toughest time which came in every one’s life. In such time of coronavirus pandemic, we ensured to take full care of our workers and team, because I think without them, I could have not achieved my dreams. So, we gave them gloves and masks so that they are safe. During this period social media is the best thing to reach our customers and for promotions and all we took advantage of social media by putting our work videos and pictures on Facebook and Instagram. We did zoom calls with our customers. we tried our best to take all protective measures whatever are possible from our side as an educated citizen working for common goal. What challenges / obstacles did you face in your journey so far? I never say that I faced obstacles in my life, but I think these were the opportunities and new learnings that I faced in my life because if they were not there I would have never learnt how to deal with things. May be, I would have never explored myself. This is the way god is showing you the reality of life and I believe that there is no impasse we cannot break through. When we respond two most daunting challenges with POSITIVITY and RESILIENCE we grow in the process, they are source of learning. What comes first for you, money or emotion? I am a very emotional and sensitive person myself. Money can never be achieved without the forging of strong bonds between people. As you have to come close to your friends, customers you have to know them and their way of life, this will naturally lead to deepening of understanding about each other. The emotions of people are like sea. When the sea is calm and peaceful many ships can sail on it. So, in my case Emotions comes first. How do you handle the pressure and manage stress? What is one strategy that you believe has helped you grow as a person / start-up? STRUGGLE. Without struggle you will never get the opportunity for self-cultivation, there will be no growth no flowering of your potential and no harvest of the rich fulfilment of our dreams. If you really want to go up in life, pay attention to the smallest detail of your work, exert yourself and understand your inner potentials. In your opinion what are the keys to success? Believe in yourself, believe in your dreams and never compare yourself with others. Every individual has his or her own potential, their own talents, their own value so move ahead in life with what you are and what you have. Feel proud to be for what you have got and lastly respect yourself for what you are. Last but not the least work hard and there is no excuse. What advice would you give to someone starting out as an aspiring entrepreneur? Well, here I would like to say that keep polishing your skills and keep improving yourself. Try to build an unending path in the life of future, take a stand and expand your network. Challenges, failures are part of life. Take them as learning and don’t lose hope. Victory or defeat becomes clear over the course of a lifetime, those who remain steadfast in faith are victors. No matter where you are at in your journey, we can help with real-world use cases, workshops, and consulting. Tell us a little about your organization and your organization’s journey so far; About our organization, Infoivy was founded in the year 2019 with its mission to help companies provide best-in-class coaching and mentorship to their customer success organizations from new entrants to senior leadership. InfoIvy.com is now solely focused on working with corporates to impart a real-world edge to how they approach customer success. We believe we can make a significant difference and help companies to retain customers and grow to upsell revenue from their existing customer base. The Covid pandemic hit us all just a few months after we launched. This forced us to put some of our plans on pause but now that conditions are returning to normal and we are pushing hard to recover the lost time. We see great things in store for us in the coming months and years. Tell us a little bit about yourself (background) and your journey as an entrepreneur, please; I have worked in the technology and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) industry for some years and was fortunate enough to successfully co-found two startups - the first one provided solutions to the SMB market for instant messaging and VoIP over the internet, and the second one focussed on marketing data aggregation and analytics. For some years I have run a very successful blog focussed on the application of big data and data science in the field of customer success and creating a better customer experience. This path led me naturally to consider the rapidly expanding field of customer success for my third startup - InfoIvy. I felt that I needed to contribute to the younger generation and offer coaching and mentorship services to the many newcomers that join the industry as customer success managers or relationship managers. As well as coach current CSMs and other customer success and support professionals to grow their careers into more of a leadership and management role. I would like to invite the reader who may wish to know more about me personally to visit my online page . And would also like to invite the readers to connect with me on Twitter . Why did you choose entrepreneurship over a job? Growing up in a middle-class family, becoming an entrepreneur was not something I thought about or even dreamt of. Yet, I guess I probably always had a desire to build something new in me. And with some encouragement from family and friends, I was able to channel that creativity into multiple new ventures. But do not get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with having a corporate career. In fact, in many ways the experience learned during those years helps you become an entrepreneur. What gets you out of bed in the morning i.e. what’s your source of motivation? In short - my source of motivation is working with and learning about new people. I am fuelled by my passion for navigating the nuances of how different personality types impact our professional interactions and can make all the difference between failure and success. This is seen often by the customer-facing teams. And very few know how to reach these nuances and more importantly how to react to them. I consider myself a lifelong learner, eager to both build on my experience and stay in tune with the latest research on customer personas and profile creation along with customer relationship management and success strategies. At InfoIvy, we want our customers to trust us to advise, coach, and educate their teams when they need to reduce churn, increase adoption and drive more renewals. During this COVID-19 crisis, what are the measures you have undertaken to continue your business without disruption? We have had to make a few changes to our initial business model but since much of it can be easily moved online, we did not have to face the brunt of the restrictions to travel and movement of personnel during the last 2 years or so. What challenges/obstacles did you face in your journey so far? The biggest challenge is the limitation of our imagination and biases. And this manifests itself in sometimes imaginary obstacles that seem very real. The continuous challenge is to keep aside your own preconceived notions and look at the things with a fresh set of eyes and let the world around you tell you what it needs. This might seem very philosophical but it's actually not. Since the world talks to you in a simple language. And it is the language of data. Data is the new oil or lithium - depending on who you talk to. But, if one can train oneself to look at the data objectively, rest falls in place. What comes first for you - money or emotions? For me passion always has to come first. Once you feel passionate about something you can start looking at numbers, business models, money, cash flow etc. Many times, it might turn out that the passion might only rise to the level of a hobby since it might not be possible to make money with it. Some tweaks or changes might be needed. But passion has to come first. How do you handle the pressure and manage stress? I have my family and friends to support me. So, if the stress gets to be too much, I just take a break from it - even if it is for an hour or so and talk and connect with my friends and family. But, since InfoIvy is my third startup, I feel I have a good handle on stress :) What is one strategy that you believe has helped you grow as a person/ startup? The strategy I believe has helped me grow as a person is that one should know his limitations, Know his strengths as well. Besides this do not chew more than you can handle. As long as you can keep your head above water, you can keep growing and continue in your lifelong learning journey. In your opinion, what are the keys to success? I believe that the following keys can work for anyone’s success. Since it worked for me and I believe it can work for you as well. Build high self-esteem Believe in yourself, have confidence, like and feel good about yourself, and take pride in what you do. Most of the time the harder thing to do is the right thing to do. So, do not fall to the temptation of taking the easy way out or as they say - the path of least resistance. Focus with a positive attitude. Always expect the best possible outcome for what you do. Your thoughts drive your actions. Positive thoughts lead to positive actions. And positive actions result in positive results. Set powerful goals Give your brain a place to aim. Set goals so that you can reach them. When you do, reach a little higher. Do not let others dictate what you can and cannot do. Only you decide that. Having detractors is a good thing. They remind you of why you need to focus on your goals. Persevere Never quit. Never give up. Keep going and keep trying. Based on various factors, adjust your speed accordingly but keep moving forward and sometimes that might be more like inching your way forward but that’s OK too. Maintain a healthy mind, body, and spirit Take care of yourself through a healthy diet, exercise, and say no to drugs. Taking some time off is a good thing. Your mind or your body is not a machine. They both deserve to rest. What advice would you give to someone starting as an aspiring entrepreneur? Advice for young entrepreneurs is often so generic because everyone operates under different circumstances and in different markets. There is no universal recipe for success. But there are aspects of running a business that many young startup owners miss out on, or don’t pay enough attention to. Or hesitate to try in practice. Know this, when you are starting as an entrepreneur, you will inevitably make mistakes. They will cost you lots of money and lose revenue and even deprive you of sleep. But do not stop learning from your mistakes. Making mistakes is a good thing. If you are not making any mistakes, it can only mean 2 things. 1) You are moving too slow, or 2) you are not taking enough risks. Both are more deadly to a young startup than the mistake itself. The idea of not working for someone else and only working for me looks like the best thing possible. I never wanted to work in a big organization, where I was just a number. As per my experience entrepreneurs are so attractive to me because here you are your own boss, you can set your schedule, vacation, and working hours. When you take a big risk, there is a chance of a big reward. I love the calculated risks. There is no restriction you can do whatever you want to do with your business. So I believe the biggest factor is opportunity and freedom. On asking what was his key driving force to become an entrepreneur? Deepak replied that; If you ask me the true key to success is one’s passion and vision for something and his dedication to making everything possible. There are certain things like a strong belief in yourself and your idea that go a long way in helping to fulfill your dream. Your passion, your idea, and belief work wonders and definitely helps. On enquiring about his source of motivation, He appraised that; Motivation will come automatically from self-pressure to achieve your dream and determination. In my view the best source of motivation is setting goals, chasing them, and achieving those goals with 100 % perfection. How many hours a day do you work on an average? As an entrepreneur, I work for almost 8-9 hours a day but by mind its 24 hours, and yes as an entrepreneur you have to be ready for 24*7 so that your work goes on like forever. I love to do my work, much of the time I end up putting in more hours than usual. Can you tell, what is the uniqueness of your start-up? Well, I can give you a lecture on uniqueness. My start-up is “Drankio” we help all small business to improve their digital presence with the help of our digital solutions. We help to build branding across the world. A unique thing about start-up can be anything that they implement which no one else implements, it is not just a unique way they market their service or product. How do you handle the pressure and manage stress? From my point of view, the key to handle the pressure and stress at work is working as a team with others. Whether it’s my co-workers or managers I know if we all band together we come to a solution more quickly and easier. Sometime’s music and writing poems are the best stress-busters for me. How do you generate new ideas? I don’t think there is a process of generating new ideas. The idea is useless unless executed hence I love executing ideas. First learn from your mistakes, launch it, and make it a hit. A brilliant tip would be to do things in a different way for generating ideas. How did you come up with the name of your company? Drankio stands for Digital Rankio. If I want to explain more about my digital marketing agency then D-digital R-rankio A-Audience N- Niche I-Input 0-Output. What piece of advice would you give to college graduates who want to become entrepreneurs? If you have ideas go for it, follow your passion and your heart and build something that the user needs. Build a dedicated team who can believe in your ideas. Entrepreneurs need to lead so believe in your ideas, if you cannot believe in yourself no one else will believe. Be patient, don't give-up. Share this Interview: Know more about The Calibrate “ The Calibrate ” - its a Digital and Data Specialist firm with its focus pillars revolving around digital marketing, data mining, & machine learning, creative branding and strategy, and professional development. It was a part of our curriculum to have to make startups and compete for inter-university. So our startup went on to win a lot of accolades and we received a lot of funding. Once I got back to India, taking pay off from my startup there, I went back to working and consulting for advertising agencies and startups, but deep in my heart I would yearn to be my own boss and after working for 9 years - I decided to go ahead with my own firm. On requesting her, Why did she choose entrepreneurship over a job? The ability to be your own boss and take ground-breaking decisions with regard to campaigns and strategies. Also, employ and train people with disabilities and build an inclusive team. How do you find the industry/niche that you’re in? Advertising has always been my passion and the idea to not change your field while forming a firm, but to continue following your passion motivated me to start my own firm. My industry is competitive, with so many agencies mushrooming across India on a regular basis - I have found my niche. A collaborative model where I work with different agencies as a team to offer the client what is best for him. Thus, as a collaborator, I have managed to have another office in Singapore that handles the data mining side of it. This gives my agency a wider edge than my supposed competitors. What gets you out of bed in the morning i.e. what’s your source of motivation? The urge to make it bigger and better and the dream to establish a group of companies in the next 5 years under The Calibrate banner. Right now, I have a digital wing in Kolkata and a data mining wing in Singapore. On inquiring from Ms. Samriddhi Chakraborty about the challenges/obstacles she faced in her journey so far, She explains that; Brands have the perception that since the agency is new and has low clientele/low brand equity - they can make them work at a dearth-cheap pricing. So I have had to say no to a lot of brands asking for services at a dearth cheap rate. This has been the biggest obstacle that I have faced as an entrepreneur. On inquiring about the uniqueness of her startup Glow Entertainment, Ms. Samriddhi Chakraborty explained that; My firm is all about inclusion and collaboration. I work with people with disabilities as well as normal people. And I have a lot of agencies up my sleeve with whom there is a collaborative model in place. So this offers a wider scope for my startup to operate. When stress persists, it can take a toll on your health and well-being. On inquiring from Ms. Samriddhi Chakraborty that How she handles the pressure and manages stress, She explains us that; Stress is an integral part of the initial days for any startup - especially when you are bootstrapping it. For me - I manifest my stress into energy to get the venture up and rolling. I don’t let downfalls and setbacks affect me. Rather I stand up and face what’s coming with conviction and positivity. On inquiring about what is one strategy that she believes has helped her grow as a person/startup? Ms. Samriddhi Chakraborty said that; As a person I have always believed in a personal relationship than a mere professional relationship. So in the last 9 years of working as an account strategist - I have harbored innumerable relationships with clients who have become friends and have helped me immensely through the course of my career and now my startup business. In your opinion what are the keys to success? You cannot always pick pointers that can be solidified as keys to success as it is quite variable. For me keys to success would include a happy team working in silos for the greater good, a common goal to make The Calibrate a success. A plethora of happy customer testimonials and pull factors while acquiring newer retainers from existing clients to name a few. On asking her about the advice she would like to give to someone starting out as an aspiring entrepreneur, Ms. Samriddhi Chakraborty says that; As it is said that constant Focus is the key to success and does not lose hope when things are not working out. One should Look for loopholes before the hiccups come into play and salvage the situation before it takes a drastic turn. Since the beginning, I had one goal - to not only make people beautiful but also make them feel more confident about their looks – and that is the crux behind creating Lely's! Tell us a little bit about yourself (background) and your journey as an entrepreneur, please. Greetings, I'm Bhavini Khakhkhar, founder of Lely's - the beauty brand that is just right for you! Every single day I wake up with the feeling of gratitude that I am a part of this beautiful mission. Throughout each day, I commit myself to learn new lessons and adopt the changes necessary to improve my skills and knowledge. As I achieve my dreams, every person associated with me is gracefully empowered to achieve their dreams. I believe that success is a matter of defying expectations, overcoming obstacles, and creating opportunities that might not otherwise exist. Why did you choose entrepreneurship over a job? When I was a teenager, I was smitten by beautiful cosmetics and make-up. I watched ads that lured me to purchase beautiful cosmetics - and when I purchased them, the results were not what I had hoped for. This might be happening with most of the buyers of cosmetics I believe. My first turning point was at that time – and that was the time when I promised myself to build the best cosmetic-products line in India which will not only stand true to the expectations of the buyer but also shows the result after its use. What gets you out of bed in the morning i.e. what’s your source of motivation? Regarding my source of motivation, I feel every morning, the first thing I do is thank God for giving me another beautiful day. I make sure that I utilize the awarded day with my full potential and energy to bring a smile to my people’s faces. I usually decide my big goals to be achieved soon and divide them into small goals, daily goals to achieve the desired objectives. Every morning I wake up with a particular goal in my mind to be achieved. I even get excited about each small task and when at the end of the day, when that is being achieved, I feel a sense of completeness. I usually make sure that my goals should not be piled up and remain unachieved. What comes first for you - money or emotions? The feelings of satisfaction, joy, pride, or triumph that come from accomplishing something are very important to most of us. But, for me, emotions always come first in my personal life while I always choose to work hard for financial growth for my business. How do you handle the pressure and manage stress? To ease the pressure which comes to my mind by I spending some time talking to myself asking certain questions like – how much important is it in my life/business? What could be the best way to get things done? What if I choose the other way? I set priorities according to the demand to manage the stress whichever comes in me. I visualize the outcome I will get once I achieve the goal. I discuss it with my team members and ask their opinion and support to overcome the pressure. We celebrate small victories and reward ourselves to get going for the next goal. What is one strategy that you believe has helped you grow as a person/start-up? I believe that helped me grow as a start-up as I have been greatly benefited by my ethics and values throughout my life. I also believe it is very important to adhere to good ethics. Most of the time I have experienced that when you have good values, you will always be involved in good deeds. By eliminating behaviours that do not conform to my sense of right and wrong, ethical values like honesty, excellence, and ownership helped me deal more effectively. In your opinion what are the keys to success? earning is an essential part of my life and I believe that is the key to my success. Information and continued learning nourish my mind just as food nourished my body. I believe each career and organization should make lifelong learning an integral part of their activities. What advice would you give to someone starting out as an aspiring entrepreneur? I believe every team-building exercise is intended to make employees stronger as a unit. The stronger the team the stronger the organization. I had personally witnessed the impact of this approach on employee productivity, employee motivation, collaboration, and building trust and respect between them. Entrepreneurship is definitely not for everyone. I think that entrepreneurship is a mindset. Sure, you can learn a set of practical skills and acquire some knowledge of how to do it. But it takes lots of personal traits and character to execute business ideas in challenging environments. What was your key driving force to become an entrepreneur? On enquiring from where did the idea to start something like “SoftPrime Technologies” came from and requesting him to tell us about his background and his journey as an entrepreneur, Mr. Shankar Sahai enlightens that; Since the start of my career, I wanted to do something of my own where I can do things according to my vision. Being aware of all risk factors involved to set up a business from scratch I preferred a job over entrepreneurship in my early stage. But I continued to think about business and waited for the right time. I started my career as a marketing executive in a small IT start-up, gradually rising through ranks. Over the past two decades, I have gained experience in many segments and understood the nitty-gritty of all the business. During this period, I built up good relationships in the IT Industry which gave me a lot of confidence to start my own company and shape my dream to become an entrepreneur. On enquiring from him about choosing entrepreneurship over job, Shankar Sahai narrated that; I started my career in IT Sales and spent more than two decades learning a lot of stuff. Over time I realized that I have done my part as an employee now and it is time to follow my dream and become a job provider rather than a job seeker. I started my own company which brought more work satisfaction and happiness in contrast to a job as it gave me more freedom to make decisions and take risks. Please tell us about your key driving force to become an entrepreneur. My job experience makes me aware of my potential towards my work but I need flexibility in it which can come through only when I drive that work independently where I can take risks as well as any decision for better results. In a job you bond to do work according to your employers, so your work results sometimes haven't been that fruitful as you expected. This is the main force that makes me an entrepreneur and so I give wings to my work. On enquiring about his source of motivation, Mr Shankar apprised that; My dream, aspiration and passion for my work keeps me motivated. Every day I set a new goal for this company and work on it which keeps me going. It is important to surround yourself with positive people who keep you spurred and offer you constructive criticism which in turn boosts your morale. On enquiring How many hours a day do you work on average? He recounts that; I would say if you love your work and follow your passion then hours do not matter, you enjoy every bit of time. Discipline and life beyond work also play an important role, so keeping that in mind I usually work 10 hrs a day and sometimes more if required. Here I would like to thank my wife who has been my constant support system, without her support I’m unable to do so for which I am grateful. On enquiring about the uniqueness of his company “SoftPrime Technologies Pvt Ltd”? Shankar Sahai specified that; My company is unique because here we allow our employees to give honest feedback which we try to implement as effectively as possible. We thrive to create a positive work environment for our employees. They have the freedom to take any work-related decisions for the betterment of the company. We also have flexible work hours. As per my past job experiences whatever shortcomings I felt were there I tried not to repeat it here. On enquiring how important is a good team for a successful organisation? He delineated that; I believe that for any organisation a good team plays a vital role in company’s success. It’s important for a leader to have immense belief in himself and in the team, whether it is a normal day or during the adversities. I also believe that “Great things in business are never done by one person. They are done by a team of people.” On enquiring how he handles the pressure and manages stress? He delineated that; When you decide to do something different in your chosen field you are automatically ready to handle all kinds of stress and pressure. My mantra is to convert this stress into a driving force to accomplish new heights. On asking how he generates new ideas? Shankar Sahai particularize that; To deal with problems on a day to day basis and finding solutions to these issues itself generate ideas and that’s how the idea cycle goes on. When I was in a job, I was responsible for a certain kind of work but it is a completely different case when it comes to being an entrepreneur as it involves looking over all the functions/departments of the company. There are a lot of opportunities to generate new ideas in almost all the fields required to run a successful organisation. On enquiring about how he came up with the name for his company? Shankar Sahai apprised that; I wanted a name which is a synonym of best software solutions. Since ‘Soft’ refers to software and ‘Prime’ refers to premium/best. I had an epiphany to keep the name SoftPrime Technologies and that's how this company got its name. On asking him what piece of advice would he give to college graduates who wanted to become entrepreneurs? Shankar Sahai said that: My only advice to them is to chase your dream and follow your passion. Whatever field you have chosen, Art, Science or Commerce, just try to learn beyond academics also. Academics is important for good marks but to understand the subject is important for good knowledge. Good knowledge will help further in achieving your goal. Entrepreneurship is a big responsibility which comes with many risks so before plunging into entrepreneurship be prepared for it. I believe in one simple mantra of life i.e. the plan should be good, and the execution should be better then you will definitely get the best result. I was fond of machines/ vehicles and spent a decent amount of time trying to study them and sometimes even try to repair faulty components in vehicles. Started providing 2 wheeler aesthetic modification services at the respective customer’s home. That was followed by a few other short-lived ventures like selling items on eBay to a clothing business. After all the humble attempts, I completed my engineering in Mechanical from the University of Pune and started working in diversified fields which included the mechanical industry followed by IT and then Advertising. Also, somewhere between all these jobs, the thought of entering the water industry popped up in my mind. However, this time, a venture with better zeal and purpose was born. On enquiring from him about the choosing entrepreneurship over the job, Mr. Sailesh Nair narrated that; There are pros and cons to both. When you weigh them against each other, you get a clearer picture of which side you’d want to choose. In my case, I never felt like I was addressing some serious problems or solving real issues. That was the initial drive that was needed. How do you find the industry/niche that you’re in? Mr. Sailesh Nair explains that; As of now, we are currently in the Water, Waste, and Medical Industry. All these verticals are extremely competitive and the only edge a company has is with the quality of products or services they sell. Thus, anyone with a product or service capable of making life easier can find himself/ herself a suitable place in these verticals or any vertical for that matter. What gets you out of bed in the morning i.e. what’s your source of motivation? To be honestly speaking, my source of motivation is my knowledge of my invention and I think I am at the beginning of my entrepreneurship. but I feel whenever I will be in a bad situation, there will be sleepless nights. But at the first light of the next morning whatever happens will be tackled with the motto that "life has to smoothly move forward". So I always believe that there are not only 1(one),2(two), 3(three) chances but Infinity i.e nth chances are lined up for me and whatever I have to do will be an outcome of my deeds and I have to face those problems with courage and my knowledge On inquiring about what gets him out of bed in the morning i.e. what’s his source of motivation ?, Mr. Sailesh Nair mentioned that ; The will to create a niche in this competitive market, the want of facing some new challenges, and the need for creating a change. A change for good, a change for sustenance, and a chance for a better future for our environment and people. Tell us about the uniqueness of your startup, please; “Esclare” has been at the forefront to promote indigenous technologies that originate in India. Since inception, we have been working on promoting and commercializing unique technologies and solutions which are tried, tested, and complying with various quality standards. We have been associating with various research institutes and indigenous companies which focus on “Make in India”. We have successfully started setting up plants for water recovery and waste management in the country. On inquiring about his opinion about “the keys to success”, he explains that ; Perseverance , Skill , Passion , and Discipline . These are the major factors that determine how and when a person will “ get lucky ” and start walking the path of success. Mr. Sailesh explains, on inquiring about What advice would he give to someone starting out as an aspiring entrepreneur? One of the most important factors to be kept in mind is that the path is not an easy one. There are numerous ups and downs and these ups and downs will be there throughout. It is your passion and determination that will help you stay afloat and keep moving ahead. Important learning received during this COVID pandemic was that no matter how profitable you are, there may be times when sales would go down to zero. It is important to be prepared to face such challenges and bounce back with a renewed strategy. Sai Poorna Patnaik Founder Shankar Sahai Co-Founder and Director Bhavini Khakhkhar Founder Dr. Ruchika R. Share this Interview: Know more about Institute of Sports Science and Technology Institute of Sports Science and Technology i.e ISST is the first institute in INDIA providing courses in Sports Education & Sports Management Education. Modern sport covers a broad range of areas, be it ethics, medicine, technology, finance, law, education or sociology, to name a few. ISST with its modern course structure will provide a launch pad for those who wish to pursue a career in the field of sports and believes that at the beginning of a new era, the sport is in urgent need of higher competent, well trained and experienced sports administrators. The ISST will have a unique network of multi field expertise; it will develop and apply knowledge to the study of sports in connection with technology, management, medicine biology, law, economics, logistics and sociology, to name just a few. ISST supports sports innovations, technology transfer and business development. On inquiring from where did the idea to start something like “ISST” come from and requesting him to tell us about his background and his journey as an entrepreneur, Vipul apprised that ; I have been a Roller Skater at an early age of 5. My mother is a national level basketball Gold medallist and so the love for sports runs in the blood. She was the one to introduce me to sports and skating. With the vision of my mother, dedicated efforts, and a lot of hard work, I went on to represent India at the Junior World Championships in 2003 in Venezuela and also in various other international events. Due to my focus in academics, I quit the professional sport in 2006, and just to be connected with the sport, started coaching young kids in roller skating. During my days as a skater and also a coach, I experienced a huge gap in how my sport is governed and managed. There was absolutely no structure in place to develop, nurture, and promote young athletes in the field of sports. Hence in 2007, I applied for a Masters in Sports Management in various Universities/institutes in Europe. I was pursuing my MBA at that time in Pune with Dr. P.C. Shejwalkar, a senior educationist as my guide and mentor. While discussing going abroad for higher education, where the fees for the course were much higher, he suggested that I start a sports management program in Pune itself, given my background in sports. And so in 2008, under the guidance and support of Dr. P.C. Shejwalkar and my mother, Ujwala Lunawat, established India’s first dedicated sports management institute, the Institute of Sports Science & Technology (ISST). The initial years were tough, as this was a totally new and innovative initiative, and I had no experience in starting a new venture. But with Shejwalkar sir’s support and the direction we established one of the first sports management courses in India. On enquiring from him about the choosing entrepreneurship over the job, Vipul narrated that; I have done my Masters in Electronics which has never interested me much. My interest was always towards playing sports and I have been actively participating until the first year of my masters. The IT sector was booming at that time and there were new opportunities available but I chose not to go for any interviews. I always wanted to do something different and had a passion for giving back to my sport in some way or the other which made me start coaching even after I discontinued my sports participation. Secondly, coming from a business family I was more aligned towards starting something of my own rather than working for someone else. And with luck, I got a career opportunity of my liking and started ISST. What was your key driving force to become an entrepreneur? I have always believed innovation happens when you do something out of the box. And I think, to be a successful entrepreneur or for that matter a successful human being, you should have a profound passion for whatever you do. India has a rich sporting culture, and we are just lagging behind in the field of sports as we don’t have a proper management structure in place. The want for doing something fruitful to uplift the sports scenario in India has been a driving force for me as an entrepreneur. It took me a while to realize that one should keep working towards the goal with excellence and other things follow. Please tell us about your source of motivation? My mother has been a constant source of motivation. She always wanted me to achieve what she could not as an athlete in her sports career. She has gone through all odds to support my career in sports. Apart from that, I get a lot of motivation from young kids I coach. The hard work and dedication these young kids put to develop their skills are truly inspirational and motivating. Please tell us about your source of motivation? She has gone through all odds to support my career in sports. Apart from that, I get a lot of motivation from young kids I coach. The hard work and dedication these young kids put to develop their skills is truly inspirational and motivating. How many hours a day do you work on average? Almost 9-10 hours a day. But as an entrepreneur you have to be alert and attentive 24X7, so the work goes on like forever. Tell us about the uniqueness of your startup? ISST was started, not with the motive to make huge profits and make money. It was started with a noble idea of supporting the sports industry with innovative management practices to help develop better athletes and bring laurels for the country. The most unique feature of ISST is that it is a self-funded organization. ISST has been able to generate revenue streams that have helped it to be self-sustainable. The distance education programs which we offer help us to break geographical barriers to education and students enrolled from all over the world. Another USP we have is that ISST runs its own grassroots sports coaching academies providing students an opportunity to learn through coaching kids and managing various sports events. How do you handle the pressure and manage stress? When you start something new, it is obvious that stress and pressure come along. My biggest stress buster is the coaching I do with kids for roller skating. It actually takes my mind off from all other things I am involved with. For me, the other best way to handle stress, pressure, and be productive is to divert the mind from the thing which gives us stress. I keep myself either occupied with work, or hobbies, or playtime with my dog. One tip for being stress-free is to keep a light heart. Don’t think much about things which give you stress and it will be taken care of. How do you generate new ideas? I don’t think there is a formula or process to generate new ideas. They just come or let us put it in this way, it’s god’s gift to get innovative ideas. I think for any entrepreneur to be successful the idea is the most important. You can surely achieve success if the idea is different and innovative enough. A quick tip would be to think out of the box or to do things in a different way for generating new ideas. How did you come up with the name for your Institute? Sports in this era is not just limited to on-field practice or play but also the use of science and technology to improve performance. When we started ISST, we intended to interlink the fields of science and technology with the field of sport and hence the name Institute of Sports Science & Technology (ISST). What piece of advice would you give to college graduates who want to become entrepreneurs? One mistake every entrepreneur does is to expect fast results. I think young students should first do sound research, backed with educational qualifications for starting anything new. They should have a clear vision and goal of what they intend to achieve and what work they want to put in to achieve their goals. Without passion, there is no success. Students should keep working hard passionately, and not just hard, but skilfully hard so they move towards their goal. Results don’t come overnight and it may take a while for anything new to show results. Malcolm Gladwell in one of his books says you should work 10000 hours to achieve mastery in any field. And if we apply the same rule to new ventures, it takes 1000 years for any business to flourish. So if you put 10 hours of passionate work for 1000 days, you can become the master in that field and your business will surely show shoots of success.
