Why did you choose entrepreneurship over a job? I’m very much passionate about learning. Learning should never stop. Many people equate age, status or certain achievements with the end of their education, but to learn is to be alive. I want my ideas to be unconventional. Entrepreneurs are the ones who change the world. They see the world as they want it to be, not how it is. Entrepreneurs are able to contribute the nation for its development & indirectly provide the employment What gets you out of bed in the morning i.e. what’s your source of motivation? Good Question. I would say not just in but at night, it usually happens. am always fond of figuring out something niche or new, which may create a proposition for me and the public at large. I usually keep this mode on all the times and it serves the source of my motivation all the time. By God’s grace, have been able to do that as well, where either has created it or worked on something related to it. Also, I am currently in the process of developing something niche on lines. What is your brand’s USP? Larger scalability and lower transaction fees . How is your brand different from the competitors? Dart is global initiative in blockchain space & uniqueness of Dart is its lightning speed & cost effectiveness compare to other leading blockchains in present scenario. Also, Dart allows business & governments to use blockchain infrastructures and leverage its strength without prior knowledge of distributed system During this COVID-19 crisis, what are the measures you have undertaken to continue your business without disruption? As the business is born during the COVID-19 crisis, each measure is taken to ensure that the model aligns with the challenges of the pandemic. Our business model consists of a lean team which is not resource-heavy and has minimal overheads. The freelancer model ensures each and every work can be handled remotely, where we don’t need to do physical meetings. Every aspect of the business is online and tech-enabled to ensure automation as much as possible. What challenges/obstacles did you face in your journey so far? Every business has risks. Our risks are associated with a right skillset that we look for expansion in future. We already have a core niche team but I see from future expansion perspective, we would need innovative minds, with the flexible thought process. Although, with a clearly defined process, and innovative means to reach out to search resource, we are confident enough that we will mitigate it. What are the three most important lessons you have learned while building your start-up? Be open for new opportunities Look for the potential of tech Hire people who believe in the vision In your opinion, what is the importance of a good team? Teamwork promotes strong working relationships Finally, when employees work together and succeed as a team, they form bonds that can turn into trust and friendship. It's human nature. And it's great for any organisation, since employees who like and trust each other are more likely to: Communicate well with each other. Teams innovate faster Teamwork can create healthy competition What comes first for you - money or emotions? I am an emotional person. Business needs to have emotions, not personal, obviously, but business ones like concern for quality deliverables, client satisfaction, targets & roadmaps, you planned & how you will achieve it, etc. Money is obviously the priority but I believe if your value creation process is right for others, money will automatically come as an outcome of it. How do you handle the pressure and manage stress? I have successfully carried out Pre IPO advisory for a Government undertaking under the supervision of great mentors I have. It was a challenging task as the sector for which we were executing it, was complicated. Even, parallel hired consultants were not that effective as compared to our work and Organisation fired them. But due to the continuous trust of my immediate supervisor in me, I have been able to carry out successfully. What is one strategy that you believe has helped you grow as a person/startup? In my journey so far what has helped me immensely is the lean methodology. In your opinion what are the keys to success? There are a few and you can learn it on your way up. As long as you have growth mind set it is not a problem. What advice would you give to someone starting out as an aspiring entrepreneur? I always work on a tag line ‘add value to get value’. Don’t focus primarily on money or investments but keep your focus on creating a sustainable venture & value creation. I believe, rest things will automatically set with time. Also, if you are starting up a venture, feel free to reach out to us. You will find us a great partner or mentor to you with innovative means. Share this Interview: Know more about Search Foundation Where did the idea to start something like this come from? Please also talk us through your background and your journey as an entrepreneur; Born and brought up in a small village in a farmers family. Walked many miles daily to attend school. Left the village to grasp the quality education, did Intermediate while remaining in the hostel meant for poor and needy people. Wanted to pursue Agriculture engineering but landed up with a diploma in electrical engineering from government polytechnic to support family expenditures. In 1993, because of the unpleasant & unhealthy environment of my home and the torturous and humiliating behavior of my stepbrother, I was facing with the ideas of suicide. Gradually my depression reached a higher level and I was thinking that there is no meaning of my life so I should end it through committing suicide. For some time I also lived at my elder sister’s house but there also I did not find a suitable atmosphere for me so I left it and went to Yavatmal city. I started working at a shop for my livelihood and did the work for almost one year and then one of my sworn sister helped me. With her husband, she took me to the doctor and told him about all my difficulties, mental and psychological pressure. With the help of that sworn sister and doctor, I keep myself out from the trap of depression. I got the opportunity to serve from an instructor to Principal of Private ITI and with the support of the Chairman of Polytechnic got the chance to fulfill my dream of doing a Bachelor of Engineering in Electricals. Alongside my job I also completed the Diploma of Public Relations and Professional degree of MBA. During this period, the idea for doing something for rural students of tribals and farmers came to my mind. in 2002, registered our organisation “Search Foundation” and In 2005 we started the first English Medium School in a tribal and remote area at Tehsil level, Korpana with the pre-primary section along with all the Government Permissions.Presently having a huge infrastructure of 10 Acres with modern and advanced facilities in our school campus. Our school also got the status of Renowned School from the Maharashtra State Government and we have admitted around 300 tribal students for education. Now along with this school, we are running some of the social organizations under the umbrella of “Search Foundation” and we are moving forward with our continuous efforts for the overall development of people of tribal and farmer communities. Why did you choose entrepreneurship over a job? Since my bent of mind was towards doing the welfare activities for the remote needy tribal people in specific and people of my society in general but due to my Job schedule, it was difficult for me to manage my job and to pursue my mission to work for the tribal population. I took a chance to proceed with my mission, I quit the job and started my venture “Search Foundation” to work for the betterment of our society. It is universally accepted that if you have to work for the welfare of the society without expecting any profit then you need to have a vision and a great dedication for proceeding further with your ideas. I decided to work for the tribal population and have no grudge that I quit the job. At the same time I feel great that with my tremendous will power, I implemented and transformed my vision into reality. What was your key driving force to become an entrepreneur? My pursuit of helping people is my driving force to become an entrepreneur and since from my youth days, I wanted to work for the welfare of farmers, tribal people, students, and youth of our vicinity so that they can also be a part of the mainstream. I also wanted to use my knowledge, experience, talent, and potential for the service of these tribal people and provide them with a healthy environment and support system so that they can also fulfill their dreams and lead a successful and satisfying life like all others. For me serving the people of these rural communities is equal to the service of the Nation because these rural people are the real backbone of our Nation. What’s your source of motivation? The enormous number of smiles of satisfaction and happiness of the beneficiaries of our work is the main source of Motivation for us. This really makes a very good organization “Search Foundation” making us stronger and inspires us for more dedication towards achieving our goal of overall development of these rural farmers, tribal people, and youth of these communities. How many hours a day do you work on average? Nature has given the fixed timeslot of 24 hours to each and everybody without any discrimination. So we all have equal 24 hours to manage and complete all the work and necessities. I usually work for 13 – 14 hours a day. Sometimes my work also goes up to 15-16 hours. I usually give 6 hours to sleep to maintain the health system. Tell us about the uniqueness of your startup, please; Our organization is working for Underprivileged communities, especially for framers, tribal people, students, and youth of rural areas. Our Search Foundation has been working since 2002 in the remote tribal area of Korpana & Jiwati Tahsil, in Chandrapur District of Maharashtra. Nearly 100 villages are living in substandard conditions with the major occupation of rain-based farming and agricultural labor. We organize and run many activities and projects from time to time for the overall development of these farmers & tribal people of our vicinity. We are trying to uplift the standard of living of these people and our aim is to work for the overall development and welfare of these underprivileged people without any discrimination. For their overall development, we conduct many activities and programs for their Education, Health, Hygiene & Nutrition, Women Empowerment, Environment, Agriculture, Personality Development & Career Guidance For Youth and students. How do you handle the pressure and manage stress? I have a unique way of handling pressure & managing stress. I normally try to maintain my physical fitness with yoga, exercise, and try to meet, interact, and share the things with my friends and wellwishers to manage the stress. We should always keep this thing in our mind that if we are planning and working on something big then we will definitely face the difficulties and hurdles but these difficulties and hurdles are to make us stronger and ready for winning the given situation to achieve the goal. So we should make yourself stronger, fight with all the difficulties & hinders and win that at every step. We should also think and try to maintain the feeling of friendship for everyone. Do not have the feeling of competition and jealousy for anybody even if he/she is your competitor in the field. If we are taking care of these things and doing the work with positive thinking, caring, and supportive nature and with a cool mindset then there will be no pressure at all. Always have faith in your efforts, handwork, and in your passion. How do you generate new ideas? In my point of view, if somebody is having a big vision and that big vision is for the wellbeing & betterment of all members of society and if we try to explore new things and search for new things continuously then the new ideas come again and again to the mind automatically. If the person starts implementing those ideas and the result of those ideas leaves a smile of satisfaction and happiness on the people of the society., then these smiles of satisfaction and happiness of the people become a driving force to do a new work each and every time. How did you come up with the name for your company? I wanted to give a unique name to my organization and that name should not be a traditional one. I also wanted that the name should be clearly an indication of our work so after searching and thinking a lot at the end I came up with the name “Search Foundation”. Each and every human being should do the continuous search for the best possible way of his/her welfare along with the welfare of the society. In our organization “Search Foundation”, we try to search and implement all the possible ideas for the betterment of our society. We started all our ventures under the tag of “Search”. When the time came to decide the name of the school again we decided to give it a name related to our mission, so we gave the name “Scholars Search Academy” to our school. This name clearly indicates our aim of searching for the new scholars in the society for the enrichment of our environment. What advice would you give to someone starting out as an aspiring entrepreneur? I think first of all we should be a good human being and then we should set and decide our target. After that we should do the analytical and logical research and development work for that so we can be ready for all the possible hinders and obstacles of our journey of achieving our goal. At last we should implement the planned ideas one by one with positive thinking and enthusiasm. For this both the objective and medium (Path) of our organization should be pure, so we should always try to run all of the organization with the ethical way to get the real satisfaction of the beneficiaries. Tell us a little bit about yourself (background) and your journey as a entrepreneur, please; I’m Dakshin, I’m currently a 16 year old residing in India, my entrepreneurial journey started when I was a 14 year old . India is a diverse country but one of the few things in which we aren’t diverse is career choice, most parents or the children themselves believe that becoming an engineer or a doctor is would be the perfect choice for their children or themselves similarly in many other countries parents believe that their children should study well and work for a good company or the children themselves believe the same, I’m not against this idea but I’m against the idea of making the children have no expanse of career options. My journey started like this, my family has 3 generations of doctors and I really respect their occupation but growing up in an environment like that gave me a mind-set that being a doctor would be the right choice for me and at the same time I used to have many crazy ideas, sometimes I wanted to become an astronaut and sometimes I wanted to become a politician, I also had this though that I want to have fame and I want to have a ton of money (which I believe is not wrong when you work hard for it), luckily I have an open minded mother who inspired me and helped me engage in everything and from that engagement I explored a lot of fields, by the end of 8th grade when I was 13 I had explored swimming, debating, public speaking, acting, robotics, 3D and game design, VR development, graphic design and many more, by 9th grade when I first attended the largest design and programming based competition for people aged 16 and younger called the National Design Championship , I designed a drone called Drone To Deliver Medicines which was what I believe the rebirth of supersonic jets , my design proved to have a higher wind resistance than any other drone that was presented at the same competition but unfortunately due to the lack of a team and better designing skills I had bagged the runner up title but that’s what they say right? You must learn from your failures, I picked up my designing skills later and at the same time I was involved in MLM and Network Marketing for which after a while I lost interest but during that period of involvement in MLM and Network Marketing I got what I believe is a partial entrepreneurial mind-set and then came the idea to use my graphic and 3D designing skills to make some money but I didn’t know who a proper entrepreneur was at that moment and hence I had become a freelancer in which I failed as never was I able to get a client and nor did I have the right experience so because of that I started studying more about entrepreneurship from which I got the true entrepreneurial spirit, from which I also understood that entrepreneurship is when as entrepreneur one creates businesses that changes the lives of people or species for the better this is when I got back on track at the age of 15 and used my public speaking skills which helped me convince teens of my age who had competed with me in the same National Design Championship to join my team and from that initiative came The Legacy Org , the first time I with a team as a company helped another business with their new logo from which we made money and though it wasn’t much it gave us the at most pleasure which encouraged us to do more and create value for businesses and the people involved. Then came the second company called Luxuriya Fashion And Lifestyle for which we had initially thought that if we could create some fancy dresses and sell them with fancy prices we could make could money but never could, we slowly understood the struggles and the processes involved and hence we had to drop the very 1st designs we made and from that mistake we learned that we must be innovative and create an impact here and from this we came up with proper business plans and designs that we’re sure is to make an impact as it releases in 2023 and similarly we came up with another idea for this company which was to make NFTs but then we believed that NFTs alone can’t make any big impact and from this came Utopia – India’s and Multiple Countries 1st Digital / Virtual Fashion and Lifestyle Experience which’s our full scale Metaverse under development, we recently presented our company and all that we’re going to do as a company at Latitude 59 which is one of the largest start up and scale up events in the world for which we got a great response making it one of the proudest moments for us. And now came Payir Corp which is an initiative towards the betterment of every species on Earth and the betterment of our planet Earth itself for which we’re researching and when we complete our research and launch this initiative we expect to have an impact on everyone and every species like never before. Why did you choose entrepreneurship over a job? Like I mentioned before I’m from India which is the most diverse country in the whole world but one of few things I which India is not diverse is the occupation that one would opt for, it’s mostly medical science and engineering here there’s always a similar case around the world. Growing up in a country like this and especially growing up in a family with 3 generations of doctors I needed some kind of vastness of career options in my life, luckily I have my mother who made me engage in everything I could from that I had explored swimming, public speaking, debating, acting, graphic and 3d design and as far as I can remember I had never wanted to work for anyone which relates to scenario of occupation options around the world, most of the people would like to work in some company, organization or hospital but why won’t people these people think about owning the company, organization or hospital? And I took the decision to search for this answer, All that I could find is about the mind-set of people which is basically job security but truth is that being an owner of a company, organization or hospital would be hard initially and when one gets the breakeven point there’s no stop which allows them to have a lifetime of financial security, this was the initial reason for me to choose entrepreneurship over a job but now being an entrepreneur for 2 years changed the answer which is to change lives of people for the better which’ll eventually build the lifestyle that I desire and create a legacy. What gets you out of bed in the morning i.e. what’s your source of motivation? Good question. The only motivation to get up in the morning is my life, I believe that one must “ live life to the fullest”. one of the other main reasons to choose an entrepreneurial lifestyles for me is because as an entrepreneur I love what I do, I love everything about my life and this makes me excited to get out of the bed every morning as early as possible and sleep as late as possible, as an entrepreneur I’m able to learn something new every day, implement whatever I’ve learnt, I have the ultimate freedom to create what I want and live my life the way I wish. My mum is also one of the major sources of motivation as she has inspired me to pursue whatever I wish to and she has brought me up in such a way that every moment of my life has been interesting, besides being a mother to me she is also a visionary in all the companies as her ideas and suggestions have never failed us making me want to get out of bed and wanting to gain more from my mum and spend more time with her. What is your brand’s USP? Our USP is very simple in our all our 3 companies which is basically “only if we could provide better value to the lives of our clients we could develop” this statement itself acts an assurance that we’d be providing the best of anything we do and hence our products and services are built in such way that it’ll keep up this promise. Our products and services itself acts as a USP, those who have experienced our products and services irrespective of whether they’re our investors, directors, C-Suites, employees, partners or clients know that our products and services will create massive impacts for sure and in terms of The Legacy Org we’re already providing our services and our clients love it. During this COVID-19 crisis, what are the measures you have undertaken to continue your business without disruption? From the very beginning we had been a full online business and when most businesses failed due to the online adaptability factor we were succeeding, one of the most important things we did is that we developed businesses which were just starting out and we also made business adapt to the full online version which made us succeed during the Covid-19 crisis as well, in fact the crisis was never a crisis for us and it turned out to benefit businesses like us. What are the three most important lessons you have learned while building your start-up? This is the best question out of all. To keep it short I’d say the best one is learning from failures, if you have gone through the above mentioned then you would’ve noticed that I myself have made some mistakes and failed in some places and we as a company have made mistakes and failed in some places but we learned from it and corrected ourselves, this is something that the people around you, schools or colleges doesn’t allow you, if one is not allowed to make a mistake or fail and is punished for that then there’s no chance for innovation or improvement, in fact calling such things as a mistake or failure is wrong according to me just like the great Sir Thomas Edison said “I didn’t fail a 1000 times. The light bulb was an invention with 1000 steps.” The next thing is proper knowledge before doing anything, if one would have the proper knowledge about anything the stress is less and the work is less. And comes the team, there must always be a team and this team must be ready to go through anything for the about to come success. There must never be any competition in a team, we’ve always been taught never to help anyone in exams by our schools, academies, institutes or colleges – in their world it’s called “cheating” in our world it’s called “cooperation”. What comes first for you - money or emotions? Obviously as humans we work by going to job, run business or freelance to put food on the table which is not possible without money, there’s this funny quote “Money is like a hand wash solution, it kills 99.99% of all your problems”. I believe that no emotions must hinder an entrepreneur as he or she runs a business for which he or she must take decisions, every moment of an entrepreneurial life is based on the decisions hence when an emotion enters there it spoils the decision. I believe both money and emotions don’t come first as the impact that we’re to create is what matters and when this impact is done without any emotion (which I believe is the right way to do) the money will obviously follow. How do you handle the pressure and manage stress? Firstly choosing Entrepreneurship for me was because I love what I do as an entrepreneur hence there’s no pressure or stress. Secondly, even if one arises what I’d be doing is taking a break from what gives me the pressure or stress, the way I’d do it is by hitting gym and spending time with my mum, and rarely by attending fun online meets or watching stand-up but at the end one must remember that there’s no point in escaping from that pressure or stress as it’s his / her responsibility to solve the issue and move on. What is one strategy that you believe has helped you grow as a person/startup? There’s no strategy for one to grow as there are a ton of strategies and some would work for one and won’t work for the other but a strategy that I’d highly recommend is the Blue Ocean Strategy . What advice would you give to someone starting out as an aspiring entrepreneur? Wow! This one good question. So as an Entrepreneur I’d highly recommend anyone who’s starting out to check out blue ocean strategy and then comes this….please don’t make the same mistakes which I did which is basically starting out without properly knowing everything, I believe that one must research and study everything that they’re going to do in their business and those things related to the same, the next thing one must not do is to depend on a team or someone to do things for them even though you (one) might be the boss. Bootstrap as much as possible, don’t find investors for the money but find them for the potential that they might bring to your company, also be prepared for everything, remember that every single moment you waste is going to have a very bad impact on you and also try to be sustainable in everything that you do. Another thing that I’d add to anyone who’s starting out is basically try to be flexible, the flexibility I mean is to change your methods if it doesn’t suite you but never change the goal, also there’s a chance that everyone around you from your parents to your best friends – mainly the closest one to you might have a huge backlash for what you’ll be doing and they might want you to change your path from an entrepreneur to something else (Never have I directly experience this but I did experience this indirectly and I’ve seen a lot of entrepreneur friends lose their paths because of situations such as these) but don’t listen to them keep going, find entrepreneurial communities such as Yes Fam Entrepreneurs ( https://chat.whatsapp.com/BsCMYnwq0PA3aTeyvPPEMr ) where I’m in too, attending entrepreneurial networking & socializing events and start up & scale up events will help you a lot. Where did the idea to start something like this come from? Please also talk us through your background and your journey as an entrepreneur; Actually, the journey started when Ankur Jain, co-founder at Bira met me at Reliance Retail where he joined under my tutelage for training. I was mentoring him for the Rural Business Hub model wherein we had a great time as we hit it off. Then Ankur left to pursue his own business interests and I later joined Lavazza and Barista as the Brand Integration Manager for Italy. Whilst at Lavazza almost after a span of 5 years I left to join Ankur in his business interests. I was in touch with him. In meanwhile, Ankur had been concentrating on his business interest and was pursuing the beer game relying solely on imports from Belgium, US, and Spain. Anuj who was Ankurs batch mate at school also joined up after returning from a stint at UBS in London. Thus our journey at Bira began. Why did you choose entrepreneurship over a job? Having been at the helm of affairs in Coca Cola, ITC, Bausch & Lomb, and then Lavazza I was getting bored and waylaid in my professional world, a sort of cocooned existence. But for want of a break, an opportunity and the like to change the status quo of life as I continued to toil in the inane large corporation marketing guided by SOPs and best practices with market integration. There was nothing to look forward to in this mundane 24X7 existence. But as the saying goes luck is opportunity + patience + divine intervention, Ankur called me one day in my Lavazza stint and told me to chuck all this and try to do something which will have my footprint and stamp. Sounded exciting, challenging, and differentiated and therefore I opted for it and now I can never aspire to do a regular job. What was your key driving force to become an entrepreneur? Three factors will always play a full-frontal role in entrepreneurship: constant challenges, yearning to go for the unreachable, and quenching your thirst to create something new out of the ordinary. These are the guiding principles that, according to me, should always accompany your thought process. However, the big umbrella factor always is: Fire In The Belly. These are the key drivers What’s your source of motivation? One key takeaway from our ancient spiritual knowledge and the wisdom that they gave us is the constant yearning to look ‘inside’ instead of ‘outside’. By this I mean you will have to discover that force, the spirit inside your own self to egg yourself on in this journey Motivation is a driving force that runs on the fuel of passion, Knowledge, and ability to look beyond. Anyone & anybody can be an entrepreneur provided he or she can imbibe these 3 principles inside one’s self. Though you need externalities then’ fortune favors the brave’. How many hours a day do you work on average? Time management is a myth and oft used word which has become the fashion to denote how industrious one can be. If you can skillfully assign time/job matrices to something on the line of Steven Covey’s, you can make things easier. I usually devote 10 hours a day at the max and try to mix business with pleasure i.e taking time out on some weekends. What is the uniqueness of your startup? The game-changing word is Disruption which motivates the Consumer packaged Goods space. Uniqueness depends on many factors: business category, the segment in that category, the competition in that category, the current players, not in that order though. What you have to look for is uncontested space, unmet needs for the category consumers, and the current offerings. Once that is done then you devise a price positioning matrix that gives you the open spaces to work on. For eg. In the case of BRB chips, we found white spaces in some unique offerings as compared to the mundane chips which have been going on for some time, no product differentiation, and value-added for the consumers. How do you handle the pressure and manage stress? I am reminded of a line in the movie Border: “Zindagi ka doosra naam problem hai”. Therefore pressures and linked stresses that are part and parcel of a daily work living Managing it is both, easy and difficult in a startup: Easier part : First being clear of your work duties, your deliverables, and communication flow. For instance, have daily morning meetings to resolve interdepartmental issues, any differences, and the usual flow. The basic step is to remove irritants and friction The difficult part is of interpersonal dynamics of the co-founders, expectations that can crop up linked to some new issue and financials How do you generate new ideas? Generation of new ideas is a more strategic part of the business It is usually done amongst the co-founders and which is obviously reliant on some key learnings that one has found lately, some new insight form our consumers and inputs form our own team New ideas primarily should result in new product development or some key messaging or distribution issues or facilitating business in a better cost-effective manner Therefore to sum up we need to generate new ideas to increase our value for the consumer, reach and distribution and the need to bring in cost effectiveness How did you come up with the name of your company? The name was more of a brain wave which one of our co-founders came up with one day in the morning to name it Forbidden Foods. It is linked to many facets: of course the first is the fruit as per the Bible signifying the need to break the molds of good and evil, next comes the work Forbidden which means that we are part of the angst of the youth(primarily our target is years 15 -25) and this age group loves to play anti-institution i.e thinking against the current wave. BRB was our take on this kind of a product type and brand as a result of this thinking and is actually an acronym: Be Right Back This relies on the prevalent SMS lingo in the current generation, the pointer towards taking any time, anywhere, and anyhow to break what you are doing and take a break. Just relive the moments with BRB and it is like a pause to taste and reflect on things around you What piece of advice would you give to college graduates who want to become entrepreneurs? Well, it is a mindset. Our current education brings about pressures, forcible competition, and expectations that are asynchronous with the current situation. Therefore there is no urge to ‘create’ but to ‘conform’ However, to inculcate that feeling of creating something out of our daily mundane existence is the key. We have to find our hidden talents, our passion, and the desire to seek something in life that not only creates a source of income but is also sustainable and creates opportunities for others. Because it is in giving that you receive. Having said that there are a lot of externalities that govern our world but the trick is to escape these and carve your own space. As Chief of Strategy, I bring together a range of Management ideas to singularity in structure for execution. It is easy for me because I am good at it. Why did you choose entrepreneurship over a job? I choose entrepreneurship because it does not challenge my terms. Even though I have been in jobs earlier in my career where my Superiors were exceptional Leaders, perhaps that’s where I learned that there is a stark difference between a Leader and a Follower – the right Leader creates and develops more Leaders. That is what I feel I can do and presently am doing. On a lighter note, alternatively if I continued as a subordinate, I would most certainly fire my own Boss. What gets you out of bed in the morning i.e. what’s your source of motivation? Frankly speaking I am inspired, not merely motivated. I am inspired by the purpose I am set out to achieve. This is what keeps the fire in my belly burning endlessly. My purpose, on a larger spectrum, is to bring positive change to individuals and masses. I am constantly working on it and feeling motivated all the time. During this COVID-19 crisis, what are the measures you have undertaken to continue your business without disruption? As the business began during the COVID-19 crisis, each measure is taken to ensure that the model aligns with the challenges of the pandemic. We proudly abide by government safety standards for the services we provide. Every aspect of the business focuses on technological excellence to ensure automation as much as possible. We are structuring the unstructured market of Drip and Dry Services – which has been welcome by businesses and households during the pandemic. What challenges/obstacles did you face in your journey so far? As you know, every business has risks. Our risks are associated with a right skillset that we look for to facilitate expansion. We already have a Core Team, moreover I see from future expansion perspectives that we would need multi-skilled employees, with flexible thought processes/adaptability and employees that dream big with a desire to develop and grow professionally. With a clearly defined process and existing skills in the Team, we are confident enough that we will mitigate the challenges. What comes first for you - money or emotions? None comes first I think. I can sleep with my money wallet left open. I believe that if your value creation process is right for others, money will automatically come as an outcome of it. How do you handle the pressure and manage stress? When you become an expert at a subject, pressure does not arise. I manage stress, however, by soul searching through Fine Art, I bring to the surface all deep routed stresses and mitigate it through abstract expressionism. What is one strategy that you believe has helped you grow as a person/startup? The one strategy that I believe has helped me grow are 2 D's i.e DREAM and DO. I believe in dreaming and executing by doing it. In your opinion what are the keys to success? Follow your passion and everything else like power, fame and money will follow you. This is the key of success for me. What advice would you give to someone starting out as an aspiring entrepreneur? Dream Big and Go for it – do not worry about what people would do and speak. Keep at it. Perfection comes from making your passion a ritual – done every time and everyday. Stay focused and obsessed about your passion. Initially we started our exports of mosaics with France. In 2007 we started a company in the name of Legend Stone Pvt Ltd. In partnership with a Holland company. From legend stones we focused on interior and mainly exterior paving stone products. We are now exporting to UK, Germany, Ireland, Holland, USA ETC. Tell us a little bit about yourself (background) and your journey as an entrepreneur, please. My father was a railway school teacher from Rourkela in Orissa. We were three siblings and always had crisis at home as my father was the only earning member for the entire family. Financial crisis made me to always look for ways to make money to support my family along with my studies. My father was suffering from cancer, and we struggled with his treatment for almost five years, and unfortunately, we lost him. His treatment expenditure got us into huge debt. we had to leave our school and find alternate methods to go for correspondence course in Matriculation. Having tried several earning options, I could understand the importance of my further studies. I used to get admission in colleges and struggled to pay my college fees, during my Graduation when all my classmates were giving their final exams and I was not allowed to enter the classroom, luckily the student’s president of the college whom I helped him during election campaign, came to my support and fought with the management, and I was allowed to appear for the exams. Similarly got support from friends and classmates and completed my MBA from Jaipur. It was difficult time with no financial support, no shelter, away from family, on top of that sending money back home. I always valued time, Time is the scarcest thing in any one’s life so always tried to be productive, and I always involved myself into multiple things along with my studies. Trying various businesses within my capacity and most of the time I lost money with some learning. Always had a keen desire to do something of my own. At a very young age tried my hands with selling Son-papdi sweets with gift packs during festivals and apart from festivals supplying them to hotels and shops. Also tried selling incense sticks to pan shops. During my MBA, I got into a partnership with a friend to get Net2Phone instruments from Singapore and sell them in domestic market, where I lost all my savings. While I was working as an office boy for a pharmaceutical export company along my MBA, I requested my Boss to allow me to stay in the office. And I learnt a lot from there about international market and exports. Also learnt computers and Internet. Internet was new at that time, and I had the advantage of learning internet and sending mails etc. After completion of my MBA my certificates were stuck because of Fees, and I started giving consultancies to few factories who wanted to get into exports.I used to make their websites and contact offshore clients. But I wasn’t earning much, and I had the financial pressure of sending money home, I took a full-time job with one of stone factory to whom I was consulting as part time earlier. I worked there for 9 years to make my financial condition better, but it did not take me anywhere nor could get freedom of exploring new avenues. That’s when I experimented in developing mosaics from stone wastage, and we did sampling and it clicked well. That’s how we started our company. But initially we made wrong selection with people working for us and we lost and came into huge debt. But that didn’t stop me to restart again. I lost again in 2008 when my wife had an accident. I learnt a lot from my every failure and came up strongly to achieve my desired goal of becoming an entrepreneur. Why did you choose entrepreneurship over a job? I always needed freedom and was fed-up with my financial crisis and poverty that I closely experienced for years. I wanted to make best use of my energy, will power and have my own venture and to give back to the society. I learnt from my father to serve the society in what ever way possible. What gets you out of bed in the morning i.e. what’s your source of motivation? Good Question. Every day I like to learn something new out of my life’s circumstances. So first thing I do after I get out of my bed is to water my plants and then read books. I always like to experiment in my business with some crazy ideas which excites me. I am also health conscious and having addiction of going to the Gym, I look forward to attending my Gym session every morning and in the evening I play football with half the age group. I deeply believe in giving back to the society which gives me internal strength and motivation. Regarding my source of motivation, every year I plant lot of trees and take care of them, it gives me immense pleasure when I see these trees growing big. One more thing which inspire and motivate me to support an orphanage. With the help of our suppliers and clients who extend their help to support orphanage. I always feel that lots more to do and time is flying, I am still far away from my childhood dreams and that motivates me to take new challenges, learning new things, networking with younger generation entrepreneurs, you never know what and how any opportunity can get me to my desired goals. During this COVID-19 crisis, what are the measures you have under taken continue your business without disruption? Our business required physical visits to factories to check quality, but due to zoom calls we could conduct zoom calls with our north and south teams. The factories we have reduced the strengths to 40% working at one time. For quality control we have requested production status on photos google drives to ensure the standards are met. So more online monitoring. What challenges/obstacles did you face in your journey so far? We had to fight with people who have deeper pockets and better infrastructure. We just focused on what our competitors are missing. We always continuously strive to make it better product and better packing, adding more and more value for the customer. We always try to surprise our customer with over delivering, Less complications making everything easy for them. Our product is Labour oriented which is a big problem these days, but we try to conduct meetings at factories and teach them financial planning, savings and importance of taking care of their health etc. We try to treat them as we treat our customers and gradually that has helped in getting the best out of them. We tell them we don’t need your hands and legs we want you to show us your mental ability. We have asked our team not to use these words, which are actually a big problem i.e Mujhe laga, Maine socha, Meri guarantee, chalta hai these are some problems for all business. What comes first for you - money or emotions? Frankly speaking, I feel empathy and emotions are very necessary components of a business. Every business is for people, by people and for the people and in every case, Humans are involved, and you will have to take care of them at every time. Business runs because of Humans and emotions are important component besides money. Empathy is always required to move further to strengthen the business foundations. How do you handle the pressure and manage stress? I think the best way to handle stress is to work out in Gym or play football, or spend some time with trees or nature, speak to some strangers are some of my modes which I tried to handle my pressure if comes to me. Besides this, reading books, going out with family and listening to music also helps to relieve stress. What is one strategy that you believe has helped you grow as a person/startup? I think the one strategy that I believe has helped me to grow as a person is the “High velocity in action and decision, do not fear of making mistakes”. In your opinion what are the keys to success? One need to be a massive action taker; average action doesn’t take you anywhere. Learn unlearn and relearn is what keeps you going. Things change very frequently, and you just can’t stick to your past and be rigid with your traditional learning. You will have to try to keep pace with the change’s world throws at you. Learn from your mistakes and make them successful. What advice would you give to someone starting out as an aspiring entrepreneur? The only advice, I would like to give to someone starting out as an aspiring entrepreneur is to Focus on building a strong team, right and dedicated team can pull you out during tough times. Be consistent and patient. Apply long term focus and Don’t neglect your health. Meghna Joshi Founder & CEO Shankar Sahai Co-Founder and Director Bhavini Khakhkhar Founder Dr. Ruchika R. I choose entrepreneurship over a job and had the instinct to start something meaningful -- that can create great technological products or services to make the world a better place. How do you find the industry/niche that you’re in? I was the only student who opted for computers in my school days. And I always screwing around and trying hard to find opportunities to make mistakes, so that I could learn new stuff. And doing that I gained a keen interest in computers. Interestingly, without much technical knowledge and help, I started a car and bike blog “Speedster” - which was an amateur blogging site - which I managed to learn from Google baba. What gets you out of bed in the morning i.e. what’s your source of motivation? My source of motivation is 'Inner Happiness' and that urge comes when we do something we love, which is following one's passion. And, of course, my team members who strive hard to make the name of this business. What challenges/obstacles did you face in your journey so far? Building a tech startup without any experience was not an easy task for me especially hiring/managing the team. I did a lot of mistakes in the beginning, did hard work and struggle, but I always decided not to look back and move ahead. Tell us about the uniqueness of your startup, please; We are canvassing dreams of others. We develop Mobile Application, Software, Website, Cloud Services, and Digital Marketing Strategies, which is required by various startups/businesses. Right, from the start we were very sure about two things, one is to have a very employee-friendly organization, and second, we will provide high-class services to our clients. Since then we are having 100% client satisfaction behind the growth that we have achieved in just a few years. How do you handle the pressure and manage stress? Our lifestyle impact on how we react in workplace stress. Therefore, as a morning person, I have made it a habit to engage in outdoor exercise and yoga to keep stress at bay and prefer to stay calm during any kind of stressful situation. Because I believe panicking during stressful situations will never solve the problem. What is one strategy that you believe has helped you grow as a person/startup? Effective communication skills help me to build great working relationships with my clients - which helped me to grow as a person/startup. In your opinion what are the keys to success? Building a positive attitude with consistency is the key to success. As Anthony Robbins said: "It’s not what we do once in a while that shapes our lives. It’s what we do consistently." What advice would you give to someone starting out as an aspiring entrepreneur? I would like you to highlight two things here: First, always hire people smarter then you, so you don’t need to handhold them for every task, and second, if you’ve got a business idea, start it today. There is no better time than now. Because if you keep on planning and planning without execution, it will lead you to nowhere. Idea + Inaction = No Change . Planning is crucial but executing it or taking action is what will get you on to the next level. It was a good way to establish our presence across the country. I belong to a family where overall interest as mentioned is in Real Estate, Agro, and Engineering. My first personal venture was in IT which I started with two of my college mates from Australia and we grew the business to about 1300 people in IT Services. We sold the company to Manpower Inc which is a global manpower services company. I belong to a multi-generation business family who have been in business throughout their life. So I have grown up seeing my father being an entrepreneur which probably inspired me to be an entrepreneur myself rather than doing any job. How do you find the industry/niche that you’re in? This industry is very exciting and challenging. Exciting because every day is new; everyday you are building something; every day you are planning and looking at each project in a new way. One of the most fulfilling parts is the fact that to see something you envision in your head, then to plan for it and finally to see it being built, is one of the most enriching experiences about the industry. On enquiring about what gets him out of bed in the morning i.e. what’s his source of motivation? Mr. Rahul explains that Motivation ! The most important thing one needs in life. Motivation is the prerequisite for better performance. Intelligence, hard work, talent- everything is a mere waste without motivation. My source of motivation, I believe, is creating something new and my family. On enquiring about the challenges/obstacles he faced in his journey so far, Mr. Rahul narrates that; Challenges and Obstacles are always a part of any journey and naturally my journey has been no different. One of the biggest challenges I feel every entrepreneur faces is a failure and also in your entrepreneurial journey you are bound to make some mistakes which might lead you to business losses, and also might lead you to some distractions. In our mind we feel these obstacles and challenges as a problem but if you use it as a learning for your next venture or the next part of your venture you will surely overcome the obstacles and challenges. One straight question, how do you handle the pressure and manage stress: It is easier said than done and every individual has his own way of managing stress and pressure. Pressure and stress are part of the entrepreneurial journey and we all must learn to handle pressure and stress. To be very honest there is no formula that can work for everyone. What is one strategy that you believe has helped you grow as a person/startup? The one strategy or believe that has helped me is the intent to do good work. A lot of problems and issues will arise doing these part and temptations are there to change your path but in the end, if you have honesty and if you have the intention to create a great business or a great product and service you will succeed. Personally this has helped me to grow and come to the stage where I am today. Why did you choose entrepreneurship over a job? I always wanted to create value in the ecosystem and give it back to the society, there was always a hunch to do something creative around performing arts and comedy came as a boon and exciting to live like a dream. As Steve Jobs says “Your time is limited, don’t waste it living someone else’s life”. What gets you out of bed in the morning i.e. what’s your source of motivation? Good Question. I would say not just in but at night, it usually happens. I am always fond of figuring out something niche or new, which may create a proposition for me and the public at large. I usually keep this mode on all the time and it serves as the source of my motivation all the time. The kind of positivity the smiling faces bring around me is so encouraging. Making people laugh while making money seemed like a win-win idea. We all seek peace in the busy city lives after working 9 to 6, five days a week, I thought what if I could make those days better? That’s how I get motivated every morning and plan on spreading happiness amongst the stressful environments of any working space. As we are in the business of creating happiness, it does not feel that getting to work is a task in the morning. What challenges/obstacles did you face in your journey so far? Every business has risks. Our risks are associated with the right skill set that we look for expansion in the future. We already have a core niche team but I see from future expansion perspective, we would need innovative minds, with a flexible thought process. Although, with a clearly defined process, and innovative means to reach out to search resources, we are confident enough that we will mitigate it. Finding the right team/talent/partners is the constant battle and we have achieved some milestones with their support. What comes first for you - money or emotions? I am an emotional person. Business needs to have emotions, not personal, obviously, but business ones like concern for quality deliverables, client satisfaction, targets & roadmaps, you planned & how you will achieve it, etc. Money is obviously the priority but I believe if your value creation process is right for others, the money will automatically come as an outcome of it. How do you handle the pressure and manage stress? The meditation, exercise, right food and right people around you is the key to manage the pressure and stress. I have been lucky to be around the right people in the form of family support, an amazing team that helps me to balance the day to day stress and pressure. What is one strategy that you believe has helped you grow as a person/start-up? In my journey so far what has helped me immensely is the lean methodology and the relationships with people/team/partners. In your opinion what are the keys to success? There are a few and you can learn it on your way up. As long as you have a growth mindset it is not a problem. Persistence, Discipline, Empathy are some of the keys, and if you love what you are doing, you will gradually succeed. What advice would you give to someone starting out as an aspiring entrepreneur? I always work on a tag line ‘add value to get value’. Don’t focus primarily on money or investments but keep your focus on creating a sustainable venture & value creation. I believe, rest things will automatically set with time. Don’t start the business to raise money, start to add value, and solve the problem.
